1. This is the model for Eve, the raised hand will be slightly different since she will be picking fruit. |
2. Eve is being made from a limewood block 8½ inches/21.2 cm x 7½ inches/19 cm x 28 inches/70 cm. This is the bandsawn block in the early stages of roughing out | 3. The process of shaping Eve is progressing slowly. The sinuous shape of the figure, rather reminiscent of Hindu sculpture, is quite difficult since the photographs, taken from the usual four sides, do not accurately show the angled projections of the arms and legs |

| 4. Shaping the head – the facial features will be mostly done using burrs | 5. To establish the twists and angles of the body one has to rely on measuring the skeleton, which is the only constant. | |

6. The face has been shaped and rough sanded. I leave the finishing of the face and hair till last because it tends to pick up dirt from handling. |
7. & 8. Carving on the main figure is complete bar a few details. |

| 9. Roughing out the feet. They will be finished when the figure is cut off the block. This gives better access to the underside of the raised foot and the toes |
10. The arms are attached with instant glue they will be removed when completed and attached properly
|
11. The right arm had to be replaced because the grain was not as good a match as I would have liked |

12. The arms have been shaped. The hands have to be completed, which is difficult to do without breaking the joints |
13. The two patinated copper rings to cover the joints in the arms | 14. A strip of tape the same width as the ring is wrapped round the joints and the edges cut in with a knife |

| 15. The joint is then recessed to the thickness of the ring | 16. The joint is cut with a slitting saw | 17. After some adjustment the ring is fitted to the two halves of the joint and a steel dowel fitted |
