'Ariadne'

In Greek mythology, Ariadne was the daughter of the Cretan King, Minos.  She helped Theseus escape from the labyrinth and went with him to Naxos, where he deserted her.  She is shown here, waking on the beach to see her lover’s ship sailing away, left with the ball of string she gave him to escape from the Minotaur
